There is a heavy law enforcement presence near the Russian Embassy in Washington DC amid reports of a suspicious package left nearby. Reports claim the suspicious parcel was thrown over the fence by a passerby. Reporters on the scene say that multiple agencies, including DC Fire and EMS, are currently at the scene investigating.

The Russian embassy alerted USSS, who called in the MPD hazmat team to investigate the bag.

The Russian Embassy, which is located at 2641 Tunlaw Rd NW in Washington DC, was surrounded by heavy law enforcement following the report.

According to witnesses, some residents were not permitted to enter nearby neighbourhoods for some time.

At around 1:13 GMT the package was determined “safe”, a USSS (United States Secret Service) spokesperson stated.

According to reports, Secret Service Uniformed Division arrested one subject for carrying an edged weapon.

The subject was reportedly transported to 2nd District for processing.
