Arsenal legend Thierry Henry's stance on taking Bournemouth job as Cherries keen for talks

Bournemouth are in the hunt for a new manager after Jason Tindall's departure.

Thierry Henry: A look at the career of the former Monaco manager

Thierry Henry is open to the idea of managing Championship side Bournemouth, according to reports. The Cherries have been weighing up their options since sacking Jason Tindall two weeks ago, with former Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate having assumed temporary charge at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth were hoping for an immediate return to the Premier League this season after their relegation at the end of the previous campaign.

The club currently occupy sixth place in the Championship table but are 13 points adrift of second-placed Brentford, meaning they are likely to be forced into a nerve-wracking play-off campaign in the summer to stand any chance of regaining top-flight status.

The Cherries are still seeking stability after the departure of long-term boss and club legend Eddie Howe during pre-season, and have been linked with a host of names that could fit the bill.

Former Huddersfield boss David Wagner has already declared his interest in the job, while Oxford United manager Karl Robinson and one-time Nice head coach Patrick Vieira are also reportedly on the shortlist of multi-millionaire owner Maxim Demin.

However, Arsenal icon Henry has since emerged as the shock favourite for the job, with Bournemouth keen on sealing an agreement for his services, according to the Guardian.

The 43-year-old is currently managing MLS outfit CF Montreal and has accumulated a 31 per cent win rate since taking the job in November 2019.

Henry is understood to be open to filling the vacancy at Bournemouth but remains contracted with his current employers until the end of 2022.

However, the Cherries are said to be looking to speak to him regardless.

He led Montreal to a ninth-placed finish out of 14 teams in the Eastern Conference last season, with a record of eight wins, two draws and 13 defeats.

Henry previously served as Belgium's assistant manager under Roberto Martinez between 2016 and 2018 before taking his first proper role with Monaco.

He failed to set the world alight while in charge at his former club, with a series of poor results earning him the sack after just three months at the helm.

Woodgate remains unbeaten in his temporary role at Bournemouth, but the club are adamant that they will sound out an external candidate with Tindall's appointment the result of an ill-fated decision to promote from within.

Tindall worked in assistance to Howe during the latter's reign at the club, with the pair helping Bournemouth to soar from the doldrums of League Two to the Premier League in remarkable fashion.

Former Coventry City and Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison believes the Cherries should pursue Henry's signature despite his unproven track record, claiming that the World Cup winner's presence at the club would provide a much-needed boost ahead of the business end of the season.

"I know he's out in the MLS at the moment, but I think he'd be brilliant," Morrison told BBC Radio 5 Live. "Bournemouth need a lift, and I think him going in there would give the whole squad a lift.

"No, he hasn't been there and done it as a manager, but as a player you earn that respect and then you have to see what you're like on the training pitch.

"I know he's been under Martinez at Belgium, but the squad at Belgium's brilliant. I'm not saying he hasn't had a big input there, he's probably done well there with the squad at Belgium.

"I think just the person walking into the building will give the whole place a lift, but then he has to go and show his coaching credentials on the training pitch and when they play in the games."
