Everton fans throw Iwobi's shirt back at him as tempers flare after Bournemouth thrashing

Everton supporters were far from happy with the performance of their side against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Pressure mounting on Lampard after Everton lose at Bournemouth

winger Alex Iwobi saw his shirt thrown back at him by an enraged supporter as tensions boiled over after the Toffees were comprehensively beaten by on Saturday afternoon. Goals from Marcus Tavernier, Kieffer Moore and Jaidon Anthony gave Bournemouth their second victory over Everton in just five days after their Carabao Cup triumph in midweek, with the result condemning the Merseyside outfit to their sixth defeat in eight matches.

Everton were a long way off their best over the course of Saturday's game at the Vitality Stadium, with Bournemouth running riot to continue their impressive start to the Premier League campaign and give themselves a positive result before the World Cup break. The travelling supporters were left furious with their team after the final whistle and made their feelings known when Everton's players trudged over to applaud them, with some unsavoury scenes unfolding in the away end as several police officers and matchday stewards rushed over to calm things down.

The fans in attendance were quick to relay their frustrations and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was seen remonstrating with a number of supporters at the side of the pitch before turning his back and walking away from the situation. Iwobi went on to throw his shirt into the crowd but promptly saw it lobbed straight back in his direction, with Everton's fans in no mood to sympathise with the Toffees squad after yet another hugely disappointing result.

Everton boss Frank Lampard attempted to pacify those in the stands by making a 'sorry' gesture but it did little to calm the fury that was clear to see from the visiting supporters that had made the long trip down to Bournemouth to watch a shambolic collective effort from their players. The result is likely to have ramped up the growing pressure on Lampard's shoulders to rescue Everton's form as a matter of priority, with the 44-year-old now seemingly on thin ice after winning just three games in the Premier League since the beginning of the campaign.

The Toffees have also picked up the lowest number of away points in the division over the last two seasons, winning only three of their 27 games on the road. It remains to be seen whether Lampard will pay the price by losing his job in the not-too-distant future, with Premier League football set to pause until Boxing Day as a result of the World Cup starting in Qatar next weekend.

Lampard insisted that he could understand the post-match reaction of the Everton supporters in attendance when quizzed on what went wrong in his post-match interview, telling Sky Sports: "I'm disappointed, we need to do our part of the deal better and defend better.

"I can't talk you through it [what happened after the full-time whistle] but the fans have their dues to be unhappy today because they travelled down to support the club and they're brilliant for us at times. Today they showed what they feel about the game. They probably feel like I did. They [Bournemouth] were sharper than us, more aggressive than us, and that's the responsibility of the players and mine. We told them at half-time they had to show the action on the pitch and they didn't show it today."

Saturday's result leaves Everton just one place above the Premier League's drop zone after their first 15 matches, with the Toffees now a single point ahead of 18th-placed Nottingham Forest after the Reds secured a narrow home win over Crystal Palace. Everton will be desperately hoping to avoid being sucked into another relegation battle after the uncertainty of last season by turning their form around when the Premier League returns, although there will be plenty of questions over Lampard's position as manager as the dust settles on another humiliating defeat over the coming days.
