Ben White has left the training base in Qatar and returned home. The star will not be returning before the end of the .

White was called up by Gareth Southgate following a fine start to the season for Arsenal. The 25-year-old has started every Premier League game so far this season at right-back.

He was on the bench for England's first two games in Qatar against Iran and the USA. However, he was not part of the squad for the 3-0 win over Wales on Tuesday.

White did not play a single minute in the group stage and will not play any further part in the tournament due to personal reasons. England and the FA released a statement on White's departure on Wednesday.

The statement read: "Ben White has left England’s training base in Al Wakrah and returned home for personal reasons.

"The Arsenal defender is not expected to return to the squad for the remainder of the tournament. We ask that the player’s privacy is respected at this moment in time."

His club has also posted a message of support. Arsenal tweeted: "We’re all with you, Ben."

White was also a part of the England squad that made it to the final of Euro 2020. But again he did not play a single minute of that tournament.

He is yet to make his competitive debut for his country. His four caps so far have come in friendlies, with his last appearance in the 3-0 win over Ivory Coast at Wembley in March this year.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta credited Ben White for earning a spot in Southgate's squad last month. Arteta said: "He was very happy.

"The rest of the staff and players were so happy for him. All the credit is down to him and what he's done."

White joined Arsenal from Brighton in the summer of 2021 for a fee of £50million. He spent almost the entirety of his debut season at the Emirates at centre-back.

But Arteta insists he has been more than happy to adapt to a right-back role. He said: I think he’s really happy there and enjoying it.

"I think he finds there he has a bit of freedom and you can see when he has spaces that he likes to attack, so I think he’s happy there. He’s got that capacity.

"Physically he’s a really special player, he’s very intelligent and very gifted, and he has a lot of courage to play this game. If you tell him to play midfield, he will, and give his best."
